The single mother has been employed by Maddens Transport for the last twelve months and was overjoyed when she received the call to say that she had won the scholarship.
“When I got the phone call to say I was getting the scholarship I was so excited!’ Ms D’Souza said. “As a single parent, you struggle to make ends meet. I have a son and a daughter aged 15 and 8. Knowing that the scholarship money is there to pay for my study has really taken some of the pressure off. I can’t thank everyone enough.”
The $15 000 Scholarship is awarded to 75 apprentices throughout NSW each year, and this year nine were awarded within the Riverina Murray region.
Ms D’Souza was presented with the Award by Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke and Linda Ireland from Training Services NSW, Department of Industry, Wagga Wagga.
“It is really great to see women getting involved in areas that were traditionally male dominated roles.” Ms Cooke said. “Well done to Shannon for doing such a great job and really having a go.”
Ms D’Souza said she loves working at Madden’s Transport.
“I am really enjoying the process of my apprenticeship and Madden’s Transport have been really supportive of me, encouraging me every step of the way.”
