The service would complement the existing Sydney to Griffith train which operates on weekends.
TrainLink has suggested a new Griffith to Sydney service leaving on Thursdays or Fridays, with options for morning or afternoon departure. Going in the opposite direction, it would leave Sydney either on Wednesdays or Thursdays, with early morning or midday departure.
TrainLink has not fixed a firm date for the service, saying only that it could begin operating "later this year".
"The extra service will provide customers more choice and flexibility to travel by train during the week, whether it be for work, medical appointments, shopping or to visit family and friends," TrainLink said in its announcement.
“We would like to hear from communities so we can offer a rail service which meets users’ needs.”
Like the current weekend service, the route would run from Griffith stopping at Narrandera, Coolamon, Junee and Cootamundra.
En route to Sydney from Cootamundra it would stop at Yass, Gunning, Goulburn, Bundanoon, Moss Vale, Bowral, Mittagong and Campbelltown.
Travel time both ways would be approximately five and a half hours.
From Cootamundra to Sydney it's proposed the train could leave at 10.40am or 4.18pm on a Thursday or Friday, arriving at 4.15pm or 9.41pm.
From Sydney to Cootamundra the options are departure at 7.12am or noon on Wednesday or Thursday, arriving in Cootamundra at 12.26pm or 5.14pm.
Feedback on the proposals can be provided at an information session at Cootamundra Ex-Servicemen's Club on Wednesday 27 February from 1.30pm-2.00pm.
Alternatively, feedback can be given via an online survey at transportnsw.info/griffith-new-service, closing 23 March.
