A rubber and mattress recycling business that has been operating for several years in a light industrial area at the southern end of Cowcumbla Street has been approved for a move to a new site near the tip.

At its recent meeting Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council approved a development application for the tyre shredding and mattress recovery plant to move to a heavy industrial site on Turners Lane.
The new site is across the road from the Transfer Station and in the same vicinity as the sewage treatment works.
The recylcing business, JLW Pty Ltd, processes tens of thousands of tyres a year, creating rubber crumb used for a variety of purposes including soft surfaces in children's playgrounds and in bitumen road surfacing.
The company has a fleet of trucks that brings used tyres from all over NSW and Melbourne to be shredded.
It also collects mattresses, feeding them into a shredder which magnetically separates the steel from the fabric and sponge.
The development application stated that the present site was flood prone and adjoined Muttama Creek, and the parties had been working with the Environment Protection Authority towards the relocation for a number of years.
