The Cootamundra Saleyards and Associated Agents yarded 2079 sheep and lambs at its fortnightly sale. This was a decrease of about 800 on the previous sale, and this was possible due to the good general rain throughout the district over the last week.

The market consisted of 1636 lambs, 29 hoggets, and 380 mutton sheep and 34 rams.
The quality of the market was once again very good, with each agent have some excellent well finished lead pens.
There was a good line up of buyers on the rail and most were keen to fill orders, and they operated in a market that was $20 to $ 25 dearer, for all lambs.
There was some re-stocker activity, although they were often outbid by the processors with some of those going onto feedlots in Central NSW.
Top price for the day went to Andrew Cameron from Dirnaseer, with an outstanding pen of XB Lambs making $209.20.
With an estimated CW of 30kg and a small $2 coat, they came back at $6.90kg CW and went to Southern Meats Goulburn, after spirited bidding.
Most three to four score lambs in the 20 to 24kg CW were in the $7.10 to $7.50kg CW with the light trade weight bag lambs (14 to 16kg CW) were up to $7.50kg CW
Most of the heavier lambs 26kg-plus were in the $6.50 to $7 bracket.
These lambs were all up at least $1kg CW and more in places, from the previous sale.
There was a limited selection of mutton, and the prices went through the roof with Jim Randell suppling a pen of cast for age 1st X Ewes making $ 202.20
Most mutton ranged in the $4.90 to $5.50kg CW, or $1.20 to $1.50kg CW better than last sale. The hogget market went along for the ride with most hoggets $40 better than the previous sale.
Cootamundra Saleyards and Associated Agents next sale is on Wednesday, April 17 at 8.30am. Please note that this is the last sale before Easter, with some other regional saleyards not operating over the Easter and Anzac Day period and agents are expecting solid results for this sale
