Steam locomotive 5917, hauling 150 passengers who have enrolled on a six-day cruise with Australian travel agency Cruise Express, will pass through Cootamundra southbound at 1.14pm on Thursday May 30, and northbound at 12.30 pm on Monday June 3.
On its northern journey, at around 11.45am, it will negotiate the famous Bethungra Spiral, a feat of railway engineering designed to enable steam locos to climb the steep grade just north of Bethungra. The spiral loops up and over itself, and will provide trainspotters with rare photo opportunities.
