Cr Palmer said Gundagai people used to come to Cootamundra to use the indoor swimming pool on weekends, but now it is only open from 9am to noon on weekends and public holidays they are going to Junee because it has "opening hours that are far superior".
Mayor Abb McAlister said he had been asked by a number of people whether the current weekend opening hours could be extended, or at least moved because people working full-time needed to do other things such as washing and taking kids to sport on Saturday mornings.
The council's manager of waste, parks and recreation, Wayne Bennett, was asked to investigate urgently how weekend hours could be changed or extended.
Acting general manager Phil McMurray said the council was conducting a full evaluation of the community's recreational assets and how they could be better used, and suggested the pool could be considered as part of Mr Bennett's report.
However councillors said the opening hours of the pool should be investigated straight away.
"We need this pool to be open all day Saturday and Sunday, that's my point," Cr Palmer said.
"No disrespect to staff, but we've got to find an economical way to have this pool open over the weekend."
