The Cootamundra Cougars Under 16 girls sit in third position in the Country Basketball Championship league competition after the first weekend of competition.

The Cougars finished the weekend with two wins and one loss to sit on five points in equal third.
Undefeated sides Newcastle Hunters and the Illawarra Hawks lead the competition after the first round of matches which were played at the Newcastle Basketball Centre on June 22 and 23.
Other teams in the eight team competition include the Coffs Harbour Suns, the Gosford Rebels, Taree Tornados, Western Reds and Maitland Mustangs.
The Cootamundra girls started the weekend with a narrow 53 to 52 loss to Newcastle Hunters before registering wins over Maitland Mustags 62 to 55 and Taree Tornados 50 to 37.
Round two of the competition will be held in Wollongong at the "Snakepit" on Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21.
The girls will take on home side the Illawarra Hawks, the Western Reds and Coffs Harboufr Suns in their three matches.
