Cootamundra is lucky to have the State Model Airfield on our doorstep, just 10km south on the Gundagai Road.
Around a dozen enthusiasts gathered for a "fun fly" last weekend, with no pressure of competition and a few out-of-town visitors camping overnight and taking advantage of the hot showers and kitchen.
Cootamundra Aeromodellers member Alan Roberts says some "real" pilots are club members, and swear that flying models is harder than flying full-sized aircraft - for example, if the model is flying towards you, you have to toggle right if you want to turn left.
The field has a grandstand and visitors are welcome, the next event being an aerobatic competition from Friday-Sunday July 26-28.
