The first pen of new season lambs was knocked down to Woolworths for $231.20 after spirited competition, coming back at a record $10 per kilo with an estimated CW of 23kg and a $2 coat.
A total of 3483 sheep and lambs were yarded, approximately 250 more than the previous sale, and the good quality of stock continues, with some good runs of heavy lambs and very good lines of mutton.
The market consisted of 2745 lambs, 472 ewes, 147 new season lambs, 81 hoggets and 40 sheep and rams.
There was the biggest line up of buyers on the rail seen for a long time and all were keen to fill orders. There was some restocker activity to return to the paddock, although processors generally out bid them.
The average price per head was $216, $35 better than the previous sale.
With another quality yarding and heavier weights in most categories, prices held the extreme heights of the previous sale with the lamb job $10 to $15 up and much the same for mutton.
Ron Ward "Bellvue" Jindalee, presented a pen of heavy XB lambs that made $290.60. With an estimated 31.5kgCW and carrying a small $2 jacket they came back at $9.20kgCW and were snapped up by TFI.
Bryne Farmco Wallenbean sold a very good quality pen of Merino lambs for $ 274.00. With an estimated CW of 31 KG and dressed up in a $ 10.00 jacket they came back at $8.50kgCW and went to Southern Meats Goulburn.
This was only $3 off the state record at Dubbo last Monday for Merino lambs.
Most 3-4 score trade lambs in the 19 to 24kgCW, made between $ 9.30 to $10kgCW. A few light trade weight bag lambs (14-18kgCW) were up to $9.80kgCW with some up to $10.20 mark/kgCW.
The mutton market continues to be buoyant with top ewes making $240. Most 3-4 score mutton ranged in the $6.50-$6.80kgCW.
The hogget market remains very strong with a top price of $ 225.00.
The next sale will be on Wednesday July 24 at 8.30am.
