Elected at the AGM this week, Mrs McAtear says the CDC name has led some people to assume its role included putting development applications into council for them - which it doesn't.
"We're holding back from a name change at present though, because the NSW Chamber of Commerce is considering changing to 'Business NSW'." she said.
"If they change their name the'll pay for local chambers to change too - which can cost quite a lot."
Mrs McAtear finds that in real estate she gets the perspective of people coming from outside the town, and how much they admire it. A lot of the time, she says, even the locals don't appreciate how much we've got going for ourselves.
At the AGM Jo Tonkies was elected Secretary/Treasurer and Mrs McAtear says being such a new board could be a good thing because "we see it with fresh eyes".
"We've just signed a memorandum of understanding with the council guaranteeing its support."
Mrs McAtear sees CDC as "the man in the middle", getting feedback from business about what's needed and taking their ideas to the council. CDC will also revive a feature from a few years ago, regular monthly after-hours business get-togethers. "When you work in a business you hardly get out of your own business, so it's nice to have a chat and do a bit of networking."
Membership has been reduced from $250 for a business to $99, and CDC will campaign for more business signs at the highway entrances to town.
