Never in the main street of Harden was so much fun had by so many watching so few, as there was last Friday and Saturday nights at the "Dancing with the Locals" event in the Harden Mechanics Institute Hall.
Journalist Jody Potts, who writes for the Cootamundra Herald one day a week, and Cootamundra real estate agent and dancing teacher Kate Collingridge were two of the behind-the-scenes powerhouses behind the event's amazing success.
Ms Potts, an accomplished dancer, coached three of the seven couples who delighted the audiences with their dance routines on the Institute's stage, while Ms Collingridge also coached three couples.
The Hall was filled to capacity with diners around 24 tables, the bar did a roaring trade, and an astounding $50,000 was raised for CanAssist, by several raffles over a few months leading up to the night, by admission takings, and by auctions of prizes donated by local businesses, typically being knocked down for several times their actual value.
