The Tigers are marching towards September with confidence after saluting at the MCG to extend their winning streak to nine games.

Sunday's 12.10 (82) to 8.7 (55) victory means the Tigers finish third on the ladder and face the second-placed Lions at the Gabba in a mouth-watering qualifying-final rematch.

Richmond's recent form has been similar to their barnstorming run to the 2017 premiership.

But the Lions, who had won nine straight before Sunday, are a fierce proposition on their home deck where they have lost just once this season.

Richmond notably managed one interstate win last year against lowly Gold Coast but have won three of five this season.

"I think we've got a really good record interstate compared to most other sides and our boys enjoy getting away together," coach Damien Hardwick said.

"We'll approach the week pretty much stock-standard, go up on the usual flight, train at the Gabba then hopefully run out and play some good footy.

"The good thing about it is the dimensions are pretty similar to the 'G so it's not anything foreign to us and our boys play pretty well there.

"In saying that, they're a bloody good side so it's going to be a tough game."

Hardwick noted it had been a big positive for skipper Trent Cotchin to get some game time after missing three weeks with a hamstring injury.

The Tigers started Sunday's game dominantly but had to fight tooth and nail as Brisbane surged back, spearheaded by Brownlow Medal frontrunner Lachie Neale's career-high 51 disposals.

"They're just a really good side. They're well-structured, well-drilled, well-coached," Hardwick said.

"Many people forget last year, although they only won a small amount of games, they were in a lot of games and lost a lot by small margins.

"This has been on the horizon for a period of time."
