Two weeks ago workers chainsawed away the tangled wisteria vine, which was pulling the pergola down.
The pergola has now been straightened, cleaned, coated with a rust-killing sealant and is being painted in hammer-tone grey and black, consistent with the colour scheme elsewhere in the CBD.
Council parks manager Wayne Bennett said the wisteria would not be replaced with another vine, rather two lines of colourful shrubs would be put in. They will be a hedging shrub with the common name mock orange, and blue-flowering salvia.
