A group of local cycling enthusiasts have committed the month of October to riding as many kilometres as they can as part of the 'Great Cycle Challenge', to raise awareness and donations for children's cancer research.

"My friend Wendy Millyn from the Cootamundra Bugs has been doing this challenge for a few years now, so when she asked me to join her team, 'The Stockinbingal Team', I said yes straight away." Team member Rhonda Douglas said.
"I originally set my challenge at 500km for the month of October, but then upped it to 800km. I ride a fair bit, and whatever discomfort I may feel during this 800km, is nothing compared with what those kids go through."
The Great Cycle Challenge has been running for the past six years and invites individuals and groups to set themselves a challenge of how far they think they can ride their bikes within the month of October. All money raised goes to research into children's cancers in Australia.
The Stockinbingal Team was started by Wendy Millyn, and includes her son Isaac, husband Graham, her 89 year old mum Grace, Ben Phillips from the Olympic Hotel in Cootamundra, his two daughters Olivia, 13 and Lexie 10, Rhonda and a few other keen volunteers.
"The team is doing a ride with the Cootamundra Bugs on Saturday, October 5, and we are going to meet for coffee at the Olympic Hotel in Cootamundra after the ride and set up a stall with some information about the Great Cycle Challenge. We will be there at about 10.30am." Ms Douglas said.
"We would like to invite anyone who is interested in what we are doing, to come down and have a chat, and maybe donate something towards the cause. It is all tax deductible. We will all be wearing 'Great Cycle challenge vests, so will be easy to find."
Anyone who is interested in donating, but cannot make it to the coffee morning, can do so by going to the 'Great Cycle Challenge' Facebook page and search for 'The Stockinbingal Team'.
