TIE AT TEMORA
A high-scoring tie highlighted round three of South West Slopes Cricket played on Saturday.
Dealing with strong winds, dust, a welcome cool change and rain, Mimosa and the S & Blues shared the spoils - each scoring 245 runs.
Home side Mimosa was sent in and thanks to a brilliant 102 from 80 balls from Peter Stimson and 87 not out by Artie Stacey, finished with a competitive total of 8/245.
Stimson, at the age of 51 was at his brutal best, smashing 14 fours and two sixes. To show the dominance of Stimson at the crease, he and Peter Gerhard added 103 runs for the third wicket.
Due to the strong winds, the bails were removed late in Mimosa's innings.
Set an imposing score of 246, the Blues were keen to be ahead at 20 overs given the weather could have played a part in the result. After 10 overs, they had raced to a 100 and at the drinks break they were a miles ahead on the run rate at 4/171.
The big-hitting Josh Platt set the Blues' innings alight. He smashed 85 from 49 balls, including 12 fours and four sixes. Sam Davis was equally impressive. The former Hennessey College captain scored 50 from just 26 balls. Duncan Cameron also chimed in with 63 from 49.
With the weather setting in, both sides went for a victory but the match ended dramatically. With the score on 245, the Blues lost their last two wickets.
Attempting the winning run, last batsman Oscar Taylor was run out at the strikers' end. When the match ended, the Blues had 55 balls left in their innings.
In the BFB/Blooms Chemist local derby at Stockinbingal, the village side remained undefeated by beating the Cootamundra Ex-Services Magpies. Stockinbingal, batting first, made 190 then restricted the Magpies to 8/101.
