THE NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) has declared a total fire ban across much of the region due to predicted very hot, dry and windy weather.

It may be summer, but well above the long-term average temperatures are predicted for Friday.
There is a very high fire danger risk in the Central Ranges, while in the Southern Slopes this increases to an extreme risk.
Currently there are more 140 fires raging across the state, with Friday's extreme weather a concern for thousands of RFS crews fighting blazes.
Council areas with a total fire ban in the region include: Blayney, Bathurst, Cabonne, Cootamundra-Gundagai, Cowra, Hilltops, Lithgow, Mid Western, Oberon and Orange.

The total fire ban will be in place until 11.59pm on Tuesday.
During a total fire ban, no fire may be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended.
This includes incinerators and barbecues which burn solid fuel such as wood, charcoal or heat beads.
No general purpose welding, grinding, soldering or gas cutting can be done in the open.
