Cootamundra's Amelia Hassett and Alex Oliver have started the 2020 basketball year with success at the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup which wound up in Albury last Saturday.

Alex was a member of the NSW Waratah's side which finished third in the under 16 competition after defeating NSW Kookaburras 52 to 48 in a thrilling playoff for third and fourth positions.
Both sides finished the match with the same number of points from the field with the difference at the free throw line.
Alex finished the competition with 49 points, contributing seven points to the team's total in the final playoff match.
Victoria Bushrangers defeated the Victorian Goldminers 80 to 71 in the Under 16 gold medal match.
Amelia Hassett's under 18 Kookaburras were involved in an even more thrilling match in their play-off for third and fourth position, the Kookaburras eventually prevailing 39 to 38 over the NSW Waratahs.
The Under 18s final was again a match up between the two Victoria sides with the Goldminers running out easy winners over the Bushrangers 83 to 63.
The Bushrangers defeated the Kookaburras on Friday to make it to the grand final match.
Amelia top scored for the Kookaburras at the Cup putting on 87 points in five matches played. She was restricted to eight points in Saturday's play-off match.
