Andrew Heil, 30, is the third man charged over the probe into fruiterer Paul Virgona's death, after he was gunned down while driving to work along the EastLink Freeway at Donvale on November 9.

It comes after illegal firearms were seized in police raids across 12 properties linked to the Mongols bikie gang, including clubhouses at Port Melbourne and Ferntree Gully on Wednesday.

It's unclear why Heil, who has an SS tattoo on his face, was not brought into the Melbourne Magistrates Court dock on Friday afternoon.

He is charged with eight offences, including possessing unregistered firearms and ammunition without a licence.

Heil's lawyer said his client was awaiting surgery for a leg injury. He usually wore a compression bandage but this had been removed in custody and needed replacing.

Two men arrested during Wednesday's bikie raids, Josh Rider and Aaron Ong, are charged with murdering Mr Virgona.

The duo allegedly fired at the 46-year-old's van 11 times, and police earlier this week said the semi-automatic handgun used in the shooting remained missing.

Rider and Ong are in custody and due back in court on May 27.

Heil was remanded to appear on Tuesday for a filing hearing.

A fourth man charged with drug offences in relation to the Mongols raids is expected in Ringwood Magistrates Court on May 7.
