About 6.30pm on Sunday, officers from Riverina Police District were alerted to reports that a 10-year-old girl had been sexually abused by a man known to her at a park in Cootamundra.
A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers, while detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation.
Following inquiries, a 40-year-old man was arrested at a Cootamundra home about 3.15pm yesterday, and taken to Cootamundra Police Station.

He has been refused bail to appear at Wagga Local Court today.
