Cootamundra Library is joining other Riverina Regional Libraries in going 'fine free'.
Not only will any future late items no longer attract an overdue fine, all current overdue fines will also be waived.
The move is fueled by the notion that some people who know their late items will attract a fine simply do not return them and also cease future borrowing.
Permanent fine free status follows many years where the library would waive fees in the lead-up to Christmas and instead collect non-perishable food items to give to charity from people with late items to return.
Cootamundra Library is gradually recovering following its closure during the height of Covid19 restrictions. Library users will note they must now enter through the Stephen Ward Rooms and exit via the traditional library entrance.
A maximum of 20 people are allowed inside with opening hours currently 10am-4pm weekdays and 9.30am-12noon Saturday.
