Federal MP for Riverina and deputy prime minister Michael McCormack announced the funding in May, saying it would be allocated from a new "Local Road and Community Infrastructure" program designed to boost local economies post-Covid.

CRGC will get $985,552, which it will divide equally between Cootamundra and Gundagai.

In Cootamundra, just over half of the town's share of $490,000 will go to widening the bridge over Cullinga Creek on Rosehill Road, one of the roads connecting Cootamundra and Jugiong.

The bridge, about a third of the way towards Jugiong, is only wide enough to carry one vehicle at a time, with any oncoming vehicle being forced to give way.

"This also presents a problem for agricultural machinery and their ability to cross," the council's manager of technical services, Matt Stubbs, reported.

Around $60,000 will be spent on widening the pedestrian access bridge over the open drain at the top end of McKay Street.

"This is part of the footpath and bicycle link into Inala Place, and isn't wide enough to support mobility scooters or to allow multiple pedestrians to pass," Mr Stubbs said.

A similar amount will go to widening the pedestrian bridge across the open drain at the end of Scott Street, which links from the retirement village and high school into Cutler Avenue.

The balance of $110,000 will go to a new shared pedestrian and cycleway along Muttama Creek, between Parker and Wallendoon Streets.

"This is a missing link for the pathway along the Muttama Creek, and will provide separation between vehicles and pedestrians within the Ex-Servicemens Club carpark area."

In Gundagai, $492,500 will be spent entirely on improvements to the Sheridan/West Streets intersection.
