Blessed with a head of luscious locks, two years ago she was ready for her first haircut and decided to donate her ponytail and raise money for children's charity Variety. The response from locals touched by the young girls big heart was overwhelming and by the time she cut off 36cm of length (the minimum required amount for donation) she was not only able to hand over her hair to be turned into wigs but donated $3600.

At the tender age of five she was moved to donate her hair after finding out that some young people have to take medication which leads to their hair falling out - just as her grandmother's did.

Two years on and her hair has grown long enough to donate again and true to her previous form, this beautiful young girl is using her haircut as a fundraising opportunity.

Instead of giving money to Variety this time, she is fundraising for local family the Bucknells whose youngest daughter Rosie, born on new years day this year, has been diagnosed with metabolic disorder MPV17-related hepatocerebral mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome.

The illness affects Rosie's liver and brain and will sadly ultimately result in liver failure.

Unfortunately there is no cure or treatment beyond treating the symptoms as they present.

While it's impossible to know how Rosie's disease will progress, individuals with this disease rarely survive beyond infancy or early childhood.

"While we don't really know the family personally, I'm a strong believer in being able to give if you are in a position to do so and I'm incredibly proud of Ava for wanting to do the same," Ava's mum Rebecca said.

"I've spoken with Matilda and she is grateful for the support and appreciative to everyone for their generosity, allowing her to spend her time focusing on Rosie and their family," she continued.

Mrs Perry said the charitable efforts of her daughter have been positive for the whole family.

"It really was such a special time for her (donating her hair the first time and fundraising for Variety) and it opened up so many discussions for both Ava and her older brother about giving and compassion," Mrs Perry said.

"As soon as she had her haircut she was already talking about growing it long and donating again."

Every few months Ava would ask her mum to measure her hair and see if it was long enough.

As donations continue to roll in, Ava's parents read out the personal messages and, while she's still young, Ava gets excited as the tally grows knowing she is helping someone in need.

Ava will have her hair cut in October with her fundraising page to remain open until the end of October.

She has a fundraising goal of $1500 with $1100 already raised.
