Local police are reminding Cootamundra motorists to ensure they remove their car keys and secure their vehicles, when leaving them unattended.

"Many of our stolen vehicles in the Riverina are being stolen with the keys being left in the ignition and unsecured," Acting Inspector of Riverina Highway Patrol Ben Smith said.
He reminded motorists "It is an offence to leave your keys in your vehicle, and an additional offence for leaving the vehicle unattended".
The total of the two infringements for the offences is $232, and an additional $116 if the engine is left running.
"Vehicle insurance policies are likely also void if the vehicle is not left secured," Act Inspector Smith said.
In other news, on November 13 at 9.56am on the Hume Hwy at Berremangra, officers attached to Cootamundra Highway Patrol detected a 38 y/o female driver travelling at a detected speed of 138km/h in the 110km/h sign posted zone.
Checks revealed female's NSW class C drivers licence was disqualified until January 15, 2023.
Further checks revealed she was also detected driving whilst disqualified on the November 6 at Tumut.
A Court attendance notice was issued to the driver to attend Gundagai Local Court in December 2020.
This week, on November 17 at 8.08am on the Hume Hwy at Mount Adrah, Cootamundra Highway Patrol detected a 17 y/o male on P1 provisional class C licence driving at 134km/hr.
As a P1 driver he is restricted to the special speed limit of 90km/h.
He was driving a utility travelling south on the Hume Hwy at the time.
The driver was issued with a $935 penalty notice for exceeding the speed limit greater than 30km/h, and his P1 drivers licence was seized and suspended for three months.
On the same day at 11.32am on Chaston St Wagga Wagga officers engaged in pursuit with a blue Subaru Liberty sedan that was bearing incorrect registration plates, and had a short time earlier impacted a Police officer that was on foot at an attempted arrest in Glenfield Park.
The officer impacted was uninjured.
The pursuit was terminated by Police with the vehicle and occupant remaining outstanding.
