NOTHING beats breakfast in the park on Australia Day morning. It is a chance for the entire community to get out and celebrate what is great about being Australian and what is great about living in Cootamundra.

It is an annual ritual for many local families who balance plates of bacon and eggs cooked by Cootamundra Rotarians as they are entertained by musicians, poetry reading and more.
As in previous years, displays from the Cootamundra Antique Motor Club and Cootamundra Restorers Car Club will be in the park providing a bit of eye candy for the towns rev-heads and motor enthusiasts.
There will be poetry recitals from Bob Guy and Bruce Ward. The Sing Australia Choir will perform and Cootamundra Public School’s dance troupe will entertain.
The announcement of the Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year and Commitment to the Community Awards are always a highlight and will no doubt be eagerly anticipated once again this weekend.
All of the fun kicks off from 8am with the award presentation scheduled for 10.20am.
With The Hills Shire Cootamundra’s sister shire, it is tradition for the captains of Castle Hill High School to come to Cootamundra and get a taste of Australia Day in the country. Cootamundra’s captains travel to Castle Hill to take part in their celebration.
What better day than Australia Day to become an Australian citizen and tomorrow’s Council program includes people making the affirmation to be declared Aussies.
Cootamundra’s Australia Day ambassador Darren Coggan, who originally hails from Wagga, will also provide entertainment on the day.
In the case of inclement weather tomorrow the celebrations will be moved to the Town Hall.
