The markets are hosted by the Cootamundra Wattle Country Music Club and on a regular basis the club makes a series of generous donations raised through stallholder fees and gate takings where a donation tin is available.
The latest recipients were the Snowy Hydro Rescue Service, the Cootamundra branch of the State Emergency Service (SES) and the Southern Cross Care Retirement Village Auxiliary.
Each of these most deserving organisations received $300, up from the usual $250 given to groups previously.
On behalf of the Retirement Village Auxiliary secretary Marjorie Hart said the funds will go back into the kitty to help fund birthday, Christmas and Easter gifts for residents and outings. The Auxiliary regularly pays for lunch when the residents enjoy outings to Temora.
Both the SES and Snowy Hydro representatives also said the funding will be spent locally.
All thanked the Country Music Club for their ongoing support of organisations in Cootamundra.
After a successful year with the markets last year organisers were able to donate $3100, including this latest round of donations, back to the community.
The markets will kick off for the new year on Sunday, February 9 at their regular home of Fisher Park. They are always held on the second Sunday of the month between 9am and 1pm with a good variety of stalls.
New and used items are for sale and there is a barbecue and drinks as well as good entertainment. The entire community is encouraged to go along and support the markets so they can continue to support the community. Not to mention people can grab a bargain too!
