ARTISTIC ENDEAVOUR: The Town Hall was full for the opening night of last year’s Can Assist Wattle Time Art Show.

BACK IN TOWN: Pictured is Cootamundra born James Quarmby at Nicholson Park last Thursday for the Country Cup. Quarmby is now based in Melbourne where he works as a development officer for Victorian Rugby League.

The boys, already part of the Cootamundra Junior Rugby Bears, had a great time cheering their senior rugby counterparts to victory against Leeton in both first and second grade. 


CHARLOTTE Gay, the adorable daughter of Skye and Mick Gay, poses for a quick photo at the rugby the Saturday before last. 
Charlotte turned two on June 14. 

CONGRATULATIONS to Matilda Cowan and Andrew Bucknell on the safe arrival of their beautiful daughter Eve Lila Bucknell.
Eve was born at 7:15am last Thursday, July 23. 
She weighed a healthy eight pounds, 10 ounces and was 51 centimetres long. 
Grandparents for Eve are Marianne McInerney, Tony O’Dwyer, Sue Bucknell, the late Michael Bucknell and Darren and Lauren Cowan. 
Great grandparents are Harry McInerney, Crystal Johns, Ruth and Kevin O’Dwyer, John and Shirley Lewis and Karen and Ron Garnsey.
She is just beautiful, congratulations Matilda and Andrew.

THE grandson of Cootamundra couple Barry and Ruth Cunich, Tom Cunich, has been chosen to represent in the Second Summer Youth Olympic Games in sailing. 
This talented sailor lives in Dubai with parents Stephen and Nikki Cunich. Stephen is a pilot for Emirates Airlines. 
During the school term, Tom lives back in Australia attending boarding school in Southport, Queensland. 
He has been committed to sailing for many years and his family could not be prouder of this latest 
honour. 
The games will take place in Nanjing in China from August 16 to 23 this year. 
Tom, who is 16, will be competing at Jinnui Lake. 
He is the only youth from Australia chosen to compete, together with a 15-year-old girl from Perth. 
Susie O’Neil is the manager of the Youth Olympic Team. 
Well done to Tom on this great honour - he will have the well wishes of all of Cootamundra in China with him.

IT was a lot of fun when Cootamundra High School hosted NAIDOC Week at their school grounds the Friday before last. 
As part of the occasion, a series of ‘Koori Games’ were held with traditional Indigenous games adapted for the event.

COMMENDED: Back in 2009, Cootamundra Local Area Command’s then domestic violence officer Paul Wilcox received a prestigious award for the work he did in the local community. Today, he is suffering a rare form of cancer and friends are rallying to support him.

 TOUGH CONDITIONS: Country Club Oval was a mudbath the last time the Tricolours ran around, although it suited them as they went on to win against Leeton. Tomorrow, second grade is scheduled to play Deniliquin in Coota with the oval expected to be in much better nick. 

WATCHING: Sandy Maskell-Knight watches a set shot at goal on Saturday at Clarke Oval. Last weekend Sandy notched up eight goals in his personal points tally which would usually give him highest scoring honours, however on this occasion he was beaten by Chris Drum with an amazing 10 goals.

IT was a special occasion for former Cootamundra resident Ruth Tyrrell when she welcomed her great grandchild into the world. 
Fuatia (Tia for short) Melinda Kuki-Kelekolio was born on June 1 at St George Hospital in Kogarah.
Tia is the fifth great grandchild for Ruth and the late George Tyrrell and the first grandchild for Julie Tyrrell. 
Both Ruth and Julie were in the delivery room to see the birth of Tia making it four generations in the delivery room and an experience all will never forget.
