LAST year local gentlemen and cyclist Ian McClintock mentioned to some of the members of the Coota Bicycle Users Group (BUG) that it would be great to do an 80 kilometre bike-ride when he turned 80 years of age.

That ride did happen last year (September 1) and at the time Ian hoped that it would become an annual ride on the BUG calendar.
On Saturday, August 16 the second annual Ian 81 km ride was held, an extra kilometre was added to the title as Ian celebrated his birthday on August 15.
Unfortunately Ian couldn’t ride in the event as he came done with the flu, however the ride still went ahead and despite the weather report saying rain it’s turned out to be a fine day.
Five riders headed out from Cootamundra for a warm-up and were joined by the rest of the riders at Stockinbingal.
After a quick change of rear tyre (thank you Bill for the loaner) due to one rider hitting a large pot hole coming down Stock Hill, the group set off for Temora via Grogan.
The weather was nice, a little on the cool side but quite pleasant for riding.
Once at Temora the group met at the Terminus Hotel for some lunch, some liquid refreshment and a rest before heading back to Stockinbingal via the Old Cootamundra Road.
Last year they travelled back on the main road to Stockinbingal but the event coordinator decided the Old Cootamundra Road would be a nice change. The group is going to buy him a ruler and a calculator as the 81 km ride turned into a 101 km ride by the time the group reached Stockinbingal!
Once back at Stockinbingal, the bikes were loaded up for the trip back to Cootamundra. A few riders decided they still hadn’t had enough and rode back into Cootamundra giving them over 150km for the day.
A big thank you to Marjory for driving the support vehicle and Bill for bringing one member’s car to Temora so he could head to Canberra.
The Cootamundra BUG rides each Wednesday and Saturday leaving the post office at 8.30am on both mornings.
