Cootamundra was yet to defeat Wagga United until the game on Sunday.

“The match was exciting to watch from the first touch of the ball to the final whistle,” Philpott said.

“They missed a few early attempts on goal, but this gave the boys the confidence and determination they needed to secure a win.

“They saw that they were controlling the play and had their opponents on the back-foot from the start.”

When Wagga United scored, captain, Ian Wilson, lifted morale by encouraging the team to take control of the game. 

Coach, Andrew Parkinson, says that he’s “over the moon” with the win.

“I couldn’t fault any players in this game.” 

“Everything clicked; what we’ve been practicing for the entire season finally came together,” he said.

“I’m so proud of my men; they did everything I’ve asked of them with no individual player trying to play alone.”

At the Cootamundra Ex-Servicemens Club on Sunday night, Mr Parkinson commended the team for their “relentless attack, excellent passing and great defence.” 

The man of the match went to Harry Ashley, and other standout players were Jay White, Aiden Newman and Shane Baldry.

“I don’t believe the boys could have done anything better today,” he said.

“They played the game as it should be played; as a team. This will put the boys in good stead for next week and the next season.”
