COOTAMUNDRA Public School choir students have achieved a first place and a highly commended at the Wagga Wagga Eisteddfod held at Charles Sturt University on Friday September 5.

The eisteddfod, held annually, attracts choirs from schools around our region to compete in various choral sections.
The infants Year Two choir performed two pieces, ‘Do you want to build a snowman?’ from the movie, Frozen, and a contrasting piece, ‘Pretty little ditty’.
The students were commended for their excellent performance skills, tone and dynamics and were awarded first place in their section for the second year in a row.
The primary choir, consisting of almost 70 students, also performed well up against some tough competition in the championship section, performing two contrasting pieces in two-part harmony.
Their songs ‘Hallelujah’ by Leonard Cohen and ‘Green Door’ were well received by the audience and adjudicator, and they were excited to win the highly commended award for the section.
“Both choirs performed beautifully and were excellent representatives of the musical talent in Cootamundra,” assistant principal Lucy Greene said.
Lucy and the other choir teachers Maureen Bunworth and Jo Trickett were impressed with the students’ efforts and enjoyed hearing what other schools in the area were working on.
On the day both choirs were accompanied by music teacher Mark Forsyth who works closely with them each week to help build their choral and performance skills.
