Six athletes under the tutelage of sensei Andrew Finch competed in a variety of events on the day and earned a swag of medals for their efforts.
Pint-sized warrior Gus Smart, who has been training for 18 months, said the whole day was very exciting but the best part was getting his trophy.
Gus placed first in points sparring, first in sword fighting, third in freestyle sparring and fourth in sumo for the under 7s age group.
His father Andrew Smart said Gus became interested in the sport of his own accord and now loves it, never missing a class.
“I’m very proud, he’s done extraordinarily well,” Andrew said.
Bailey Sawyer was another successful Cootamundra athlete, earning third in continual sparring and third in points sparring for the 8-10 years age group.
Bailey has been training for just over a year but is clearly a keen student, this event being his third competition.
Luke Cram and Jack Ruskin also had a good day, with Luke earning two fourths and Jack three thirds and a fourth.
Sensei Andrew has been doing the sport for 20 years and opened the Cootamundra school in April 2011.
The group train in the Fisher Park grandstand, with classes for little ninjas, adult karate and adult muay thai on Tuesday and Thursday nights, and women’s muay thai on Wednesday night.
