Despite the best efforts to postpone the meet, Cootamundra Turf Club has unfortunately been forced to cancel the Cup.
Full story to come on Wednesday.
Original story:
TODAY’S Cootamundra Cup has been postponed following an "incredibly unlucky" technical difficulty.
Cootamundra Turf Club president Brad Shields says a water pipe on the track burst overnight at the 1,100m mark and stewards deemed that section of the track unfit to race.
“The pipe burst on a pivotal section of the track for every race on the card,” Mr Shields explained.
“Stewards were concerned about injury to the horse and the jockey and we were advised to cancel the race.
“We’ve been watering the track every day and night for the past month without issue.
“This is bad luck to say the least; it’s incredibly unlucky.
“It was shaping up to be the best race meeting in Cootamundra; we had full fields and great support from sponsors."
While the Turf Club committee is devastated, they’re hoping to transfer the race to another day.
The committee will meet with Racing NSW on Tuesday to arrange a future date.
Meantime in Cootamundra, race day is still on.
There's plenty of entertainment in store for those who attend, with fashion on the fields, the bar, a mobile TAB, and hundreds of people dressed in their Sunday best.
