‘You’re History’ background
WHEN a teenager turns a portable classroom into a time machine, a mischievous detention class is sent hurtling back through history.
The time-warped team discovers vicious vikings, pilates-practicing pirates, disco happy gladiators, rapping Romeo and Juliet and the infamous Oedipus on Jerry Springer.
Drawing a parallel between hierarchical history and the modern school yard, ‘You’re History’ was a rollicking musical chock full of wonderful characters, hilarious historical mayhem, an absorbing story, thought provoking themes and sensational songs.
WHAT an amazing show! ‘You’re History’ came to life as performances the Thursday, Friday and Saturday before last left the audience spellbound and amazed at the talent of students, staff and community members of Cootamundra High School.
‘You’re History’ was a whole-school activity and a resounding success with more than 450 students, parents and community members attending the three performances. This was the school’s first musical for over twenty years.
A culmination of months of planning, set design, costume development and rehearsals finally came to fruition in breathtaking performances.
A cast and crew of over 50 put in an enormous amount of time and effort – much of it after schools and on weekends. Congratulations must go to those students who took up the challenge – many of them gracing the stage for the first time.
To the orchestra, comprised of students, staff and community members, a job well done. To those students who worked behind the scenes in sound and lighting, costumes and make-up, set and stage design, and food preparations, each of you did a top job.
School staff played an important part in the musical performing, working backstage, developing sets, costumes, promoting the show and providing supper for the audience.
Special mention and congratulations must go to director Ms Pinney, producer Ms Taylor and musical directors Mr Perry and Mr Forsyth.
The success of ‘You’re History’ was seen in the faces and excitement of students at the end of each performance. The natural high shown by all cast and crew was a sight to behold!
Cootamundra High is now looking forward to their next musical in 2016.
