LONG-time local, Charlie Sheahan, is on a mission to win the new seat of Cootamundra for Country Labor at the March 28 election following his endorsement late last week.

Mr Sheahan is a farm manager who recently moved from Coolac to Cootamundra. He has many years of experience in agriculture, including having worked as a shearer and a wool classer. He has also worked in the building industry, owned and operated a small business and worked in the hotel and hospitality industry.
Mr Sheahan says he wants to bring politics back to the people.
“The motivation for my decision to stand as a candidate comes from a deep concern about the direction that politics has taken in recent years, particularly in NSW,” Mr Sheahan said.
“The emphasis on populist policies and the control of candidates and members of parliament has had a detrimental effect on all of us. It has generated a feeling that we are being neglected and a sense of cynicism and apathy, as we wonder who is really making the decisions that affect our lives.”
Rather than sit back and complain, Mr Sheahan says he wants to get involved and bring change.
“I want you to tell me what you want of your system of government. I’ll challenge you to participate in our political system and to influence government. Your voice carries weight and I’d like you to use it. If something is wrong, say so! Together we have some power and can make a difference.”
Mr Sheahan has been married to his wife Sue for 35 years and they have three adult children. He has lived and worked in the Cootamundra electorate for most of his life and his children have been educated in local schools and TAFE.
Mr Sheahan has actively participated in local sport and community organisations over many years and has recently re-joined the Labor Party, at one time having been President of the Jugiong Branch.
Former Cootamundra resident and Senator Sue West has welcomed Mr Sheahan’s candidacy.
“Charlie Sheahan is an outstanding candidate for Cootamundra, with real local connections and life experience that people can relate to. I know that if he is elected Charlie will be a committed representative who will listen to your concerns and forcefully advocate for Cootamundra,” Ms West said.
Mr Sheahan is throwing himself into the campaign, aiming to meet and listen to as many people in the electorate as possible.
“If you choose to elect me I will be a strong local voice and give one hundred per cent of my time and effort to serving this great region.”
