Riders and affiliates of the club turned up in numbers to prepare to host a fun sign-up day for the coming year.
They started with a hearty cooked barbecue breakfast for the many workers who came to clean up the Pony Club area at the Cootamundra Showground and the clubhouse.
The area looks amazing following a complete wash and tidy up for all to enjoy.
After setting up under the big trees on the lawn for the arrival of people for membership sign ups, the barbecue was fired up again for a free sausage sizzle.
Approximately 30 members came through the gate, including a couple of newcomers, and a terrific day was had by the children on the slip ‘n’ slide. It certainly provided some extra excitement on a hot day.
On February 15, the first riding rally was held at the Showground.
More members completed their registration for the year, and 18 riders arrived bright and early to beat the heat.
The three riding groups were able to complete their riding disciplines before lunch with gear check completed at 8:30am.
It was fabulous to see ponies cleaned up and well presented, and riders looking smart with their new club rally saddle cloths.
The three instructors for the day gave lessons on jumping equitation, flatwork, and mounted games, and everyone concluded with lunch together in the shade.
On Sunday, February 22, Coota Pony Club members and families travelled to the National Museum of Australia in Canberra to view the special exhibition, ‘Spirited, Australia's Horse Story’, highlighting the history of horses in Australia.
All involved report it was a fantastic outing for young and old alike, with some 500 objects to view including riding equipment, horsedrawn vehicles, trophies, and hands-on activities.
“All in all, it has been a very pleasing start to 2015, and a great year ahead is anticipated with some other new things planned,” publicity officer Julie Roberts said this week.
A new-look committee is leading Pony Club strongly including Paul Clancy as president, Paul Edwards vice-president, Heidi Clancy secretary and Angela Synfield treasurer.
There is always something happening in Pony Club from gymkhanas to campouts and other fun activities.
It is not too late to sign up or find out more about being part of the Cootamundra Pony Club. Information can be obtained by contacting Julie Roberts or visiting the Cootamundra Pony Club Facebook page.
