Thanks for support
Our Red Cross Shop on Parker Street has a long history in helping with community relief situations; but half of that history is how the Cootamundra community has helped the Red Cross in supporting relief situations stemming from the wars.

Our local branch began in 1914 and went for eight years; then reformed in 1927 with many generous participants leading the town to help with the needs of returned soldiers.
Our first call came again on August 25, 1939, when a telegram came requiring us to call a public meeting; and then on September 3, 1939, the declaration of war came.
Our local branch history can be read by picking up a copy at our local shop for a gold coin donation.
Many of your family members would have been a part of this time.
Our services since 1914 have been to help in disasters. This year has been full of them.
Our little town west of the divide and so far from the entire world has not forgotten the struggles when absolute disasters have turned a country into chaos quite suddenly.
Who would have thought that our little Red Cross Shop would have received hundreds of dollars for the people of Nepal.
More than 12 people have contributed more than $500 and that helps give clean water and sanitation, plus food and relief supplies and the specialists from the Red Cross to support this.
Vanuatu also received $150 from our community. The disasters may not be over, but the response to the disaster from this little town is outstanding. Thank you.
I want to thank our town's newspaper, Cootamundra Herald, because much of the news is not happy stuff.
Quite a lot is filled with struggle, loss, and contention. There are many who appreciate your purpose and I am grateful of your publication.

Debt is farcical
Australia should learn from Hungary, Iceland, and Russia and break away from the stranglehold of the International Monetary Fund and foreign bankers from which we borrow so much of our debt.
Australia has the ability to create its own credit as we once did with the old Commonwealth Bank, in the early days, until 1924, when that system was ambushed.
There is no good reason for Australia to be indebted to the IMF and other foreign banks.
Australia is a nation rich in resources and there is no reason we can’t fund our own development.
By funding our own projects and even welfare, we can get rid of our debt.
We have had a budget emergency for several years, according to PM Tony, and it is time for our leaders, if they care anything at all for Australia, to seize the initiative and do what the bankers have been doing all along: create currency out of thin air.
But where is the leadership in these days of national crisis?

Full disclosure
A letter in Friday’s Cootamundra Herald, “Thorough approach needed”, urging locals to take a more holistic approach to making an informed decision on the amalgamation of Cootamundra and Harden councils, was from Anthony McMahon.
Mr McMahon failed to disclose he is the general manager of Boorowa shire.
The letter was sent by someone else on his behalf, not from his local government email address.
