From here Cootamundra were disallowed a try which Bulldogs president Wayne Berkrey believes should have been given and which would have taken them out to a 30-10 lead.
Sitting in the crowd watching, Berkrey said he failed to see any obstruction or similar which would have resulted in the try not being awarded.
“It looked clean as a whistle to me,” Berkrey said.
The Bulldogs struggled to bounce back from this and when Junee scored two length of the field tries against the run of play, the writing was on the wall for the visitors.
With the score locked at 24-all, Cootamundra were awarded a scrum right in front of the Junee goalposts and looked as though they may finish up the day with a win.
A field goal opportunity appeared imminent and while his forwards got down to the business of packing the scrum, sharp shooter Jordyn Ballard stepped back ready to take hold of a catch from the feed and slot the ball over the sticks.
It wasn’t to be when the scrum wasn’t packed in time and the referee called full-time on a day which promised so much for the Bulldogs but in the end failed to deliver.
In good news for the club the first grade side is sitting in outright fourth spot on the Group Nine ladder and will have good momentum going forward.
Ahead of the Bulldogs on the ladder are the Gundagai Tigers, Junee Diesels, and South City Bulls, any of which Berkrey believes Cootamundra can beat on their day.
In other results from the weekend, reserve grade went down to Junee 24-10, the Bullettes leaguetag side got up 18-12 and the under 18s fell shot with the final score 22-14 in favour of Junee.
Celebrate at Blue and White Ball
Off the football field, the Cootamundra Rugby League Football Club is gearing up for a top night at the Blue and White Ball, scheduled for Saturday, July 18.
This is traditionally the time of the Debutante Ball hosted by the football club, however with a lack on girls available to make their debut, the club has decided to throw the ball open to the community and is inviting locals and visitors to save the date and get involved.
Plenty of entertainment is planned and tickets are already on sale at $50 for adults and $25 for kids (under 18), available from Hello World Travel in Parker Street.
