A man has been Tasered following a tense stand-off between heavily-armed federal police and the occupants of a home in western Sydney.

AFP officers surrounded a home in Bossley Park on Thursday afternoon, with several officers pointing guns at the front door and at least two snipers aiming guns over the back fence.
A spokeswoman said the incident was not terrorism-related and that it was part of an "ongoing operation".

"This incident is not related to any threat to national security and there is no immediate danger to the safety of the community," she said.
Witnesses reported three bangs moments before officers entered the two-storey home on Serpentine Street just after 1pm.
An ambulance was called for a man who had been Tasered.

The man remained in police custody on Thursday evening and was expected to appear in a Sydney court on Friday.
An AFP spokesman refused to say what the planned raid was about.
