The Arts Centre has established a survey to gauge public opinion, asking if people would like the Tin Shed Theatre to show new release films.
This technology would cost around $70,000, however it is anticipated this could be raised via public money or business donations.
The Arts Centre’s Julie Cowall said any cinema venture would also have to fit in with the arts programming at the centre as all grants they have received are based on them being a multi-function centre.
That said, it is possible, with Tumut having a multi-function arts centre which shows one new release film each week.
Ms Cowall said The Arts Centre often receives feedback that new releases should be shown, so answering this call from the community, the committee is now doing the research needed to further such a proposal.
The survey went online on Thursday, October 8 and less than a day later more than 2600 people had seen it.
Ms Cowall said the response was overwhelmingly in favour of showing new releases with only one person saying the centre should not.
Interestingly, around half of the respondents indicated they would not use a theatre in which they were not allowed to eat or drink.
