One minute silence was observed on the sad passing of long serving CWA members Molly Cowled and Beryl McPhail and for members who were not well at this time.
Our best wishes to Gail Commens who is representing CWA of NSW at the ACWW AGM in London.
Also, congratulations to Mrs Commens who has just become the president of the South Pacific Area of ACWW.
Hume Group of CWA has now become a member of the ACWW.
Mrs Commens acknowledged that we were meeting on Wiradjuri country and welcomed past and present members to the meeting.
Dr Susan Chamberlain, president of host branch Junee Evening, welcomed all to the meeting.
Guest speakers, Detective Sergeant Phil Malligan from Wagga and Belinda Parker, from Department of Fair Trading, gave a very interesting forum on fraud and scams.
Members from Kikoira, Bellarwi, Cootamundra and Wallendbeen took part in Women Walk the World for ACWW and $1000 was raised for families in need throughout the world.
CWA of NSW donated $6000 to the Prevention of Alcohol & Risk Related Trauma in Youth (PARTY) program.
The program provides services in schools to try and help prevent road accidents and trauma. Internationally $5000 was sent to Doctors Without Borders and they have requested members to donate items for Material Aid for the island nations in the Pacific.
State Conference was held in Cowra in May attended by 15 members of Hume Group: Ann Pratt on the Handicraft Committee, Bev Norris as an observer and 13 members representing the Hume Group Executive and branches Bellarwi, Cootamundra, Eurongilly, Junee Evening, Ungarie and Wallendbeen.
Gemma Marshall Land Cookery Officer’s report read by Dr Chamberlain in her absence congratulated all who participated in the state competition in Cowra and congratulated Win Lowe, Margaret Smith, Flo Schirmer and Ned Whiley for gaining prizes.
All branches were encouraged to conduct a Land Cookery Day.
Rhonda Widdows’ publicity report, read by Mrs Smith in her absence, congratulated Marcia Thornburn, Wallendbeen Branch president, who tied with Quirindi Branch president for the Past State President’s Award given at State Conference for what their branch had achieved during the year.
Mrs Widdows was extremely pleased with the publicity Hume Group had received in all the local newspapers.
CWA of NSW were extremely pleased to be able to donate $48,890 towards the Fire Sprinkler System for Cooinda Court Aged Care Facility in Junee.
Ellen Williams was delighted to attend and welcome the new members at the first CWA meeting of Temora Branch in May.
It is very exciting for the Hume Group of CWA to welcome a new branch.
Ellen Williams also attended the Domestic Violence Forum in Junee and Batlow’s International Day.
Helen Sheridan, Ag & Environmental Officer, noted that it was good to have substantial rain and hopes farmers are in for a bumper harvest.
The price of all commodities on the land are at a high and our best wishes to the farmers that now have to find the finance to restock after having to sell due to lack of feed.
Miss Pratt told members Section 20 in the Hume Group section is an article for a “premmie baby” and congratulated all members with entries in the State Handicraft competition..
Branches that have trophies are reminded to bring them to either Cultural Day or the AGM in October.
Members will next meet for the International and Cultural day at Eurongilly on September 21 and the Hume Group Conference on October 19 at Temora Ex-Services Club.
