DEFYING the flooding and rain that has cancelled many country shows this year, the fun of the Cootamundra Show returns this weekend.
Friday, October 14
Pavilion entries will be taken at the Alan Elliott Pavilion from 8.30am to 11am. Sections include wool, junior pavilion section, agricultural produce, art, ceramics and folk art, food and cooking, jams and preserves, needles and craft, knitting and crochet, and floral. Entries close at 11am when the pavilion closes to the public.
A full program of junior judging will commence at 9.30am near the Colin Morrow Pavilion. More than 80 junior participants are expected from all over NSW.
The show will host the zone finals of junior judging in grain, fruit and vegetables, Merino sheep, meat-breed sheep, beef cattle, fleece and cattle paraders.
Saturday, October 15
Livestock and horses
There is a huge program of livestock events planned for the day.
Yard dog trials start at 7.30am and will run all day, while horses commence at 8.30am.
A special feature of the horse program is the 20th anniversary of the Lord Eddison Trophy with over $500 worth of prizes on offer.
Beef cattle, Merino sheep, meat-breed sheep and poultry judging will commence around 9am.
Shearing
The popular Speed Shear competition will commence at 11am.
This event has a new young team of organisers and a large number of shearers are expected to take part for the great prizes and prize money available.
Pavilions
The pavilions will open at 9am with a huge display of entries and school displays in the Alan Elliott Pavilion.
A large number of indoor and outdoor trade displays will also be on hand in the Ned Steiger pavilion and around the grounds.
Sideshow alley and rides
Cootamundra Show is fortunate to have a great turnout of sideshow alley attractions and rides each year.
They will be operating all day Saturday and Saturday night.
An increased number of attractions are expected as many other shows have been cancelled.
Official opening
Emily Madge from Young, who was runner-up in The Land Showgirl competition in 2016 will officially open the show about 3.30pm.
Showgirl and Junior Stockman
Entries will be taken on Saturday at the show office until 1pm.
Presentations and announcements will follow the official opening of the show.
Entertainment
The show will feature a full program of great family entertainment.
Duke Dreamer
A family friendly Circus Stunt Show that has been performed worldwide.
Duke has a lot of different skills and stunts, including acrobatic balances, juggling (including knives and a chainsaw on top of a high pole), lasso fun, fire and lots of audience interaction and laughs.
Duke Dreamer will be performing three shows and providing roving entertainment throughout the day.
The Snake Tails Show
An award-winning, interactive learning experience featuring only Australian reptiles.
Owner and presenter Bob Withey has over 25 years experience in the industry.
Majura Comedy Magic
An old favourite returning to Cootamundra, the amazing Majura Magician will perform during the daytime program.
He has a fantastic new show planned for Saturday.
Majura is President of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and has performed for Prime Ministers, as well as being a winner of the National Close Up Comedy Magic Competition.
Young Farmers Challenge
The Cootamundra Show will host this popular spectator event for the first time this year.
Heats will be held during the afternoon with the final taking place about 6pm.
Animal Nursery
A favourite with children and adults, the Armstrong family will provide a huge range of animals.
Fireworks
The day will conclude with a fantastic display of fireworks about 8pm.
