Ariah Park has a 25m swimming pool, and the carnival is a fun, relaxed day particularly suited to the younger swimmers, including a 12m event for swimmers aged 5 and under, which Ella Gammon entered.
It was the first carnival for Sam and Charlie Bassingthwaighte, and both had top three finishes in all their events – a promising start to their swimming careers.
All swimmers had a successful day. Lachie Sedgwick won seven out of nine of his 11-12 year events, Charli Leggett won six out of eight of her nine year-old events, and six year-old Daysie Leahy won all three of her individual events.
The swimmers especially enjoy the 25m freestyle Dash for Cash race; Lizzie Bragg, Annie Khoury, Charli Leggett, Lachlan Sedgwick, and Daysie Leahy are each now $10 richer!
The day finished with a flurry of relays, many of which were won by Cootamundra, and marked a successful, fun and exciting way to end an excellent afternoon at Ariah Park.
Zone meet
A South Western Zone Qualifying Meet was held at Boorowa on Sunday, December 18, and 12 members attended. The team brought home an incredible 19 medals and 24 ribbons. It was the first meet for seven year-old Caitlyn Cram, and also for 10 year-old Toby Lawson, who brought home three medals plus a blue ribbon.
The Under 16 years girls relay team came an impressive second against some very strong clubs, especially considering that they had a nine year-old (Charli Leggett) and 11 year-old (Lizzie Bragg) in the team. Well done, girls!
Charli Leggett and Lachlan Sedgwick notched up some impressive personal best times, a reward for the hard work they have been putting in. Annie Khoury and Michaela Webb had particularly successful meets. Annie came either first or second in her age division races, and Michaela brought home three gold medals and four second place ribbons. Lachlan Webb also proved what a strong competitor he is. Michaela Webb was announced as the club captain for 2016/2017 and was presented with a pin.
