Amalgamation questions
Hearing that the government was going to stop forced amalgamations gave us hope that at last the government was listening to the people, but it was not long before it became obvious to us that the government was heading down the same old track as the Baird government, blissfully ignoring the sentiments of the people.

Later we saw and heard the new premier tell us that we should not take any notice of what her government says.
We should instead only take notice of what it does. Presumably that is to say, the government will continue with the lies we were told during the Baird Government's sordid reign, saying one thing and doing another. I would like to suggest, for what it is worth, that parliament reverse the forced amalgamations as soon as possible.
The depth of resentment in many of the country electorates cannot be emphasised too much.
We both feel that the way these forced amalgamations have been handled and are now operating, to be the most undemocratic action by any Australian Parliament that we have witnessed in our lifetime.
We would say, that failure of the Parliament to reverse these forced amalgamations could have disastrous consequences for the coalition at the next by-electorate and general election.
The ire felt by us is as nothing compared to the ire felt by many other people in the electorates, especially those in Gundagai.
We think that the failure of the Nationals to support Katrina Hodgkinson when she lost her secretarial position, by crossing the floor, was deplorable.
The dissatisfaction with Mike Baird and Paul Toole that has resulted in the resignation of Mike Baird should be of some great concern for the Nationals, who could have and should have stopped the forced amalgamations long before this.
Elizabeth attends our council meetings and is absolutely horrified, that our democracy has been so shockingly suspended. Just one person moving and seconding all motions is something we have never witnessed in our lives before.
Where is the government's integrity?
It certainly adds insult to injury to have to wait 16 months before we can have a democratically elected council. We find this to be scandalous in the extreme.
We urge the government to immediately show some character and commence making what they say the same as what they do.
We hope that the lying that has been so much a part of the forced amalgamations will now stop and also that the government is listening.
We would like answers to the following questions please?
Is it true that Paul Toole has admitted in Parliament, during Question Time, that he allowed Cootamundra and Harden to waste time and money investigating the possibility of amalgamating, knowing full well that Harden and Cootamundra shires were not to be amalgamated, but Cootamundra and Gundagai were to be?
Would you please give us a clear cut and absolute undertaking that you will reverse all forced amalgamations?
An early reply would be appreciated.
This letter is also being forwarded to the leader of The NSW Labor Party, Mr Luke Foley and the leader of NSW Greens, Mr David Shoebridge.

Pell’s convenient amnesia
HAVE we still got people out there making excuses for Cardinal Pell now that even more facts have been put on the table about his past actions?
Putting your head in the sand is not a defence.
I don’t even think it would pass the “pub test”, unless you are blind drunk.
No person with such a senior job should have that bad a memory.
