Mr Sykes, who has most recently worked as a consultant to the NSW government on infrastructure and local governance, boasts a 31-year history in regional council administration.
Mr Sykes has experience through stints in community services, planning and enterprise services, and will front media in Cootamundra and Gundagai for the first time on Thursday.
Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson has officially welcomed Mr Sykes to the position and extended her thanks to Ms Ferguson for her service, saying she took up the role at a difficult and challenging time.
“I wish her (Christine) the very best,” Ms Hodgkinson said. “Mr Sykes is very well-qualified and experienced in local government … and has also held numerous chair positions throughout his career, with a particular focus on regional NSW.”
