It comes as the NSW government rolls out the Stronger Country Communities Fund to support projects valued at over $100,000 in the regional community.
More than 75 attendees packed into the Stephen Ward Rooms on Tuesday as the NSW Nationals leader spoke alongside state MP Katrina Hodgkinson about upcoming funding opportunities available to country communities.
“We’re handing out up to $3.6 million to the Cootamundra-Gundagai area over the next two years,” Mr Barilaro said.
“There’s never been money like that out here.”
The Minister for Regional NSW has visited more than 40 regional centres presenting the SCCF and said sporting and cultural facility improvements, such as the proposed floodlight upgrades at Fisher Park, were at the forefront of discussion.
“Sport is the lifeblood of regional communities and sporting infrastructure seems to be a key area of interest,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The upgrade of lights, equipment and playgrounds as well as cultural centres, art galleries and museums; these seems to be a head above everything else.”
The Deputy Premier labelled the SCCF a “unique” funding opportunity and encouraged community members to capitalise on “budget dividends” and submit their proposals to council.
