The 2021 Sustainable Travel Report from Booking.com has revealed that Australians want to travel in ways that are more respectful and  acknowledge and preserve local culture.

The report states that 65 per cent of Australians now search for authentic cultural experiences when they are holidaying within their own borders. Some 74 per cent of Australian travellers showed a desire to travel in a way that benefits preservation of cultures. Tourism Australia has a collection of nearly 200 authentic Aboriginal-guided tourism offerings.

Also from the report, 70 per cent of Australians and Kiwis want the money they spend travelling to be injected into local communities and businesses, especially those that may have struggled during the pandemic.
