Plus, two new great places to stay in Queensland.

When it comes to experiences and nightlife, Australian travellers are the biggest spenders in the world, according to Mastercard Economics Institute's recently released annual Travel Trends 2024: Breaking Boundaries report. "Australians tend to spend one of every $5 on experiences and nightlife - compared to the global average, which is closer to one in every $10," says the report, which places travellers from the UK in the second spot, followed by travellers from Italy, USA and Germany.

The report also ranks the popularity of various destinations around the world, with Japan in the top spot, followed by Ireland, Romania, Italy, Spain, Malaysia and Australia, making this country the seventh most desired destination on the planet. mastercardservices.com
Meanwhile, if you're travelling domestically, keep these two new Queensland hotels in mind. On the Gold Coast, Kirra Point Holiday Apartments, a five-minute drive from the airport, comprises 32 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, many with uninterrupted water views.

An ocean-facing pool and a state-of-the-art gym add to the appeal, as does the burgeoning food and drink scene of the Kirra precinct, which is right out the door. In September, NRMA's New Turtle Sands Nature Resort will open at Mon Repos, a nesting location for the region's famous loggerhead sea turtles, offering guests an opportunity to observe these gentle marine creatures in their natural habitat.
