This photo captures a moment between father and son, the passing of wisdom and a fragrant cultural heritage.

Cyprien Fabre represents the fifth generation of Fragonard perfumers and is committed to keeping Grasse perfume-making methods alive (they are UNESCO listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage).

As I'm exploring perfume workshops and museums in this olfactory epicentre in the hills above the French Riviera, Cyprien offers to show me some fields. I didn't realise they would be his.

Wandering the fields, learning more about hyper fragrant Rose de Mai (rosa centifolia) for which Grasse is famed worldwide, drawing perfume houses including Chanel and Dior, I watched Cyprien share the petitgrain scent of a bitter blossom tree with the next generation, his son Joseph, before I joined them on the run to school.

Just 20 minutes inland from Cannes, this village makes a charming Cote d'Azure sidestep. But being a part of the Grassois local life for a morning is the moment I'd love to bottle.
