Run by the Australian Scale Aerobatics Association, the event will see pilots from Tumut, Parkes and Sydney compete in different categories throughout Saturday and Sunday.
National Contest Director for ASAA Norm Frazer said there will be a variety of aircraft on display.
“We get everything from the 48 inch electric powered planes to the big three metre composite models,” he said.
“Cootamundra is a good venue because it is big open space and we can get a dual flight line if we need to.”
The acrobatic competition works in the way that pilots compete in one of five classes which range from basic to unlimited.
In each of the classes, they are required to a run which features ten manouvres which differ in complexity according to the class.
Among the manouvres which pilots will be required to perform include rolls, loops and spins while turned upright.
Mr Fraser said the acrobatic repertoire of a scale model plane mirrors that of its full size counterpart.
“We do the same kind of tricks as the planes in the Red Bull air races but just on a smaller scale,” he said.
“It is also a different format because they are competing in a race while our judging criteria is solely based on how well the manouvres are performed.”
The event will run on both Saturday and Sunday, starting at 8.30 am both days.
