THE Cootamundra Soup Kitchen is back in business for a new year providing a nutritious meal, free of charge, to local families who may otherwise go without.
Having commenced in 2010 the Soup Kitchen has gone from strength to strength running out of the Baptist Church Hall each Wednesday
afternoon.
Recently volunteers attached to the Soup Kitchen hosted a stall at the Coota Beach Volleyball carnival which crowd members who ate there raved about!

ENJOYING THE ATMOSPHERE: Cootamundra Nursing Home residents Bill Illingworth (left) and Tommy Pendergast enjoy afternoon tea at last Friday’s Trip to Hawaii function held as a fundraiser for the Internal Sprinkler System Appeal. Each of the residents were presented Hawaiian leis as part of the occasion.
PROGRESS: The Cootamundra heated pool is on track for completion by the end of this month. Last week tiling of the pool and painting of the complex, inside and out, took place. Purple tiles have been used with the inside wall painted in shades of blue while the outside of the building has been painted to match with the existing frontage.
CLEAN UP FUN: While Clean Up Australia Day was officially held yesterday, Cootmaundra’s schools got a head start on the rest of the community with students taking to the grounds with plastic bags and gloves in an attempt to make their school a more beautiful place. TRI-ING HARD: The Sacred Heart Central School held its triathlon for Year Nine and 10 students last Thursday and Cody James, right, came first in the
individual section and Tyronne Owen came second. The triathlon saw the
students swim 250 metres, undertake a one km run and cycle six kms.

Helen Axsentieff, instructor of Aqua Aerobics at our local pool spent last weekend at the Temora Indoor pool.
The children at the school (pictured here) so appreciate the opportunity Gemma has created for them, a number of the children are sponsored by families here in Coota and Young. Also the school is regularly visited by Rotarians from around Australia who have taken this passionate cause ‘under their wing’ staying there and assisting with the building of classrooms.

The monthly luncheon of the War Widows and Ex-Servicewomen is back in action with the March gathering at the Family Hotel taking place on Monday last.

Charlie Roberts celebrated a ‘milestone’ birthday last week. No formal party for Charlie but he did so enjoy celebrating with family and old friends at the Coota Old Blokes No Frills Reunion held at the Country Club.
He was surrounded by (back from left) Sandra (nee Shoard) Ryan, Charlie’s sister Susan Rudd, Front Antoinette Ward, Sally (nee Doidge) Nicholls, and Olwen (nee Eldridge) Kearney. Sally lives in Canberra with husband Frank, these days and enjoys coming back to visit her brother John, sister in law Faye, and Aunty Betty (nee Doidge) Manwaring in the Retirement Village.

How nice to catch up with these former Cootamundra girls Annette Arkinstall and Anna Ingerman who were back in town for the No Frills Reunion held at the Country Club.
Many memories flood back when mentioning the Artkinstall and Ingerman families.

The Annual Cootamundra Picnic Races are set to take place on Saturday, April 5.
The hardworking committee is in ‘full swing’ with preparation for this TOP annual event.

I was delighted to hear from former Coota girl Wendy Koch and hear of her ‘happy news’ - Bruce and Wendy Patton are proud to announce the arrival of their third child, a boy, Alec Robert Patton. Alec was born at Forbes District Hospital on Thursday 16th January 2014 at 12.24pm, weighing 4780gms (10lb 8 1/2 oz) and was 56 1/2 cm long.
He is a brother for Emma (6) and Charlie (3), and a grandson for Rob and Judy Patton of Derriwong and Marcia and Albert Koch of Cootamundra.
PARIS CATWALK:
From the sheep station to the Paris Catwalk is the story of Jugiong girl Stephanie Field, the daughter of Michael and Angela Field of “Banangaroo”.
While attending school at Abbotsleigh, Wahroonga, Stephanie won The Girlfriend magazine Model Search Competition and is now (at the age of 18) on the catwalk of the Paris Fashion Week modelling for none other than Valentino and Celine!

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED: Cootamundra health service staff are aiming to walk 10,000 steps each day per person for the entire month of March as part of the 10,000 Steps Challenge initiated by the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
MEETING THE PUBLIC: Volunteer in Policing officer Lindy Boshoff, Cootamundra Local Area Command Crime Prevention Officer Peter Guthrie, Detective Acting Superintendent Paul Huxtable, Volunteer in Policing officer Louanda Hardie and Inspector Frank Brown manned a stall in Parker Street yesterday to engage with the public.

CHAMPION: David and Janelle Manwaring of ‘Rose View Herefords’ exhibited ‘Rose View Hangover’, 17 months, at the recent Canberra Royal Show. The bull was named ‘Grand Champion Hereford Bull’ and ‘Supreme Champion Hereford Exhibit’. He then went up against the ‘Supreme Champion Poll Exhibit’ and became ‘Supreme Whiteface Exhibit’. Rose View Hangover is selling at Wodonga Whiteface National in May along with two others in the Rose View team.
FUN FOR ALL: No staff member went without a Hawaiian flavour to their uniform during the recent, very successful, ‘Trip to Hawaii’ organised by the staff and volunteers for the Cootamundra Nursing Home. In addition to being fun the event served to raise funds for the Internal Sprinkler Appeal.
