Amongst the approximately 150 players was one team from Cootamundra - the under 10s.
As a younger age division they play under the ‘Nets at Go’ rule rather than calculating points to encourage sportsmanship and a love of the game.
In addition to the under 10s there was an 11s/12s and a 13s/14s age division.
Teams travelled from as far as Barellan as well as Junee, Young, West Wyalong, Yass and two teams from Temora.
Cootamundra Netball Club president Emma O’Loughlin said a great day was enjoyed by all involved under picture-perfect weather conditions.
“Council had been down and mowed the day before so the grass courts were in good order,” Emma said.
With the club in a re-building phase at the moment and a brand new committee at the helm this year they are moving from strength to strength.
In addition to Emma as president, Liz Fletcher has taken on the treasurer’s role and John Leary the secretary position.
Attention is turning at present to the State Age Championships which will take place during the first weekend of the next school holidays.
This three day tournament is always hotly contested and a great experience for our Coota girls.
It is likely Cootamundra will send an under 15s team with numbers looking positive at present.
As well as regular games at the Coota courts near Nicholson Park, Emma said the local sides are planning to represent at carnivals around the area.
“We like to repay the teams who travel to our carnival by competing in theirs,” Emma said.
Next school holidays, as well as State Age, the Cootamundra Netball Club will also take part in a coaching development program.
